This vintage French vocabulary book has a beautifully designed cover, suitable for shelve art. Lately we are super in to going to our local book shop and discovering vintage books. Maybe next time, we'll find this one! Here's hoping!

Milk and Mountains

Here is another example that good design is everywhere...even milk cartons! Love the graphic letters on the cartons and how nicely they go with the composition of shapes and colors over the mountains. Random post? Yes. Awesome post? Yes.

Texture in the Home

Found another fantastic pinner to follow! These images were found via ModernSauce. I was drawn to the idea of how many wonderfully different textures of surfaces you can have in your home. Just to add that little extra dimension. : )

Exploded Views

Jim Campell's Exploded Views really exemplified Design Key #8 for me. The amount of meticulous timing that goes into creating the images in his light installation is almost insane (the good kind).

I love the images we captured of this piece, where in each one you see something different. What our pictures created to me is organized chaos. Something so thought-out transforms by becoming blurred and distorted. In more researching, I discovered "Lacking a point of reference, horizon, or certain depth of field" a topic on But Does It Float. The images there show the perfect examples of seemingly random, but well thought-out and purpose driven things can have a sense of randomness and chaos involved. Oh and check out the image I spotted that drew me to the site!

Good Design Is...

I thought I would revisit the key steps to design we saw during the Dieter Rams exhibit and point out what attracts me to the pieces I post.  

This Dieter Rams chair is the perfect example of long-lasting and influential design. It's simple, useful, and brilliantly subtle in it's design aesthetic. I decided to find more of what I feel exemplifies this key of design. In searching for examples, I discovered Arne Jacobson, and like Dieter Rams, immediately recognized his work. I think what makes these pieces long-lasting is that they are still utilitarian without giving up on creative design. I think doing this exercise by being inspired by Dieter Ram's keys to good design, will lead to more discovery and deep-thought about why good design works.

Fair Jewelry: Son of a Sailor

Once thing we love about featuring all these talented people from the craft show is being able to go and visiting their sites. We feel like we are falling in love all over again! That's what happened when we went over to Son of a Sailor on Etsy. We didn't even see the amazing bracelets which are definitely post worthy. Enjoy!

More amazing jewelry from the Renegade Show! These pieces hail from Isobell Jewelry which is based in Oakland, CA, our sister across the bay. Since they are so close, we hope to see them at all upcoming local designer shows, as we can't get enough of their unique designs.

Fair Jewelry: Chime

There were a lot of jewelry vendors at the fair, but only one that created their pieces out of drum symbols. Chime creates accessories with this original material that makes for an industrial and textured look that will sure catch people's eyes and hearing them compliment your jewelry is sure to be music to your ears.
