Louis Reith exhibit is coming to San Francisco! His pieces will be shown at Needles & Pens in September and we are so excited to check it out. We love Louis Reith's work because of his composition with simple shapes and his bold mix up with different mediums. "Mountains" made of maps? Yes, please! You can see more of his work on his site as well as his upcoming exhibit travels. Exploring there is how we found out about the stop in San Fran. Needles and Pens is a pretty nifty shop, well worth checking out as well. This is an affordable, ecclectic space in the Mission District that talented artsy folks can display their zines, DIY goods, and of course art!

Homes, Colors, and the Sponge

We have done a post on Lauren Willhite's work found on her very awesome blog, The Color Collective. This time, we discovered her in a whole new setting...being a feature writer on Design Sponge. There, she showcases fabulously decorated and unique spaces of some pretty creative peeps. She shows the spaces, creates a beautiful color palette, and hand picks like items to have for your own home! We just loved this space, Lauren Naimola's, of Dear Golden on Etsy. Free Time Industries

Free Time Industries is a design collective that utilizes their team of designers unique talents to create housewares, furniture, and accessories like the fab necklaces posted above. This design house is run solely on producing responsible and creative designs for people to enjoy. They don't work for a paycheck, all their profits go back into the efforts of designing more innovative items. There is a great site that Free Time Industries is in collaboration with, so if you want to help them out, go to Indie GoGo to donate so they can bring new products to the New York International Gift Fair.

Vintage Britain Inspired Design

This collection of prints was created by Nancy Straughan and inspired by The Festival of Britain in the 50's. We definitely feel like she succeeded in her efforts of vintage feel, yet modern design.

Katie Vernon & Chipmunk Cheeks

We are incredibly inspired by flora and fauna. (Remember our post on our Antoiller print?) So does Katie Vernon. So much so, that she creates whimsical illustrations combining the two. We found her through decor8 and you can find her flowery hedgehog along with other delightful works on her site as well as on her etsy shop. Happy shopping and happy Friday!

While browsing on one of our favorite blogs, You are My Fave, we discovered the talented Yangyang Pan. We just love her beautiful, textured, and multi-dimensional paintings. She is know on our "People we Love" list and we can't wait to see what she does next!

Color Story

We always try and discover new sites out there in the blogosphere to keep us constantly inspired, and this week, we found one that made our hearts skip a beat. Lauren Willhite is the creator of Color Collective, our new found treasure. Lauren is one smart cookie, as she has got a designer's haven for the most important element of design, COLOR. We pulled some of her palettes that are particularly near and dear to us at the moment. We are loving the soothing and natural look of nudes and pastel pinks and of course what's all the rage on the runways, shockingly stunning brights. Style Icon: Erin Fetherston

 

Most people know Erin Fetherston for her uber-recognizable platinum hair and blunt bangs. We thought we would look a little lower...to her clothes, of course! Ms Fetherston's iconic style can be described as flirty, girly, and a little bit dark. By being a designer and creative consultant for Juicy Couture, Fetherston has brought her dreamy aesthetic to the house of velour, then going on to design her own line, and may we say, she has done a "bang" up job of it.

We Love Calla Haynes

I should have named this post "We love, are inspired by, and can't get enough of Calla Haynes", because that's how we truly feel about this innovative designer. With her chic, simple, silhouettes, her amazing prints can shine, and do they ever. Here artful mix of geometric and organic prints in soothing color palettes have got us awe-struck. Haynes doesn't stop there, however. To create her collection, she used Icelandic fish leathers, handwoven Uzbek ikats, as well as her printed silks seen above, rounding out her line with the perfect trifecta of print design: color, print, and texture. When interviewed in Elle, Hayne's refers to her design philosophy as "relaxed luxury." We would have to say she has succeeded in that, and much more.

We Love Cinnamon Joe Studio

Keeping true to our first week dedicated to the ever-so-fabulous world of children's wear, we wanted to give a welcoming Okyo Love shout out to our good friends over at Cinnamon Joe Studio. This studio does it all, designing original artwork from newborns all the way to the teens. They do this by having a team of talented designers from all parts of the globe. The prints featured here are just a taste of the delicious creations found over at Cinnamon Joe. If you like what you see (we know you do), check out their portfolio found on their site.
